The Cambridge City Council has declared December 18, 2010, to be “Paul Revere’s Ride” Day in honor of the publication of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s iconic poem 150 years earlier.
As Charles Bahne has explains on this site, the poem was first published as a “teaser” in the Boston Transcript on December 18, 1860, before its first official publication in The Atlantic Monthly two days later.
Cambridge residents and schoolchildren are encouraged to celebrate the anniversary by individual or group readings of the poem.
